Summer Horse Camp

Updated 7/6/10

Sweet Meadow offers an affordable summer camp every year. Camps are divided into beginner and an intermediate/advanced. They are held a couple weeks out of June, July and August. Activities include horse care, farm care, crafts, games, riding,  and a optional horse show on the last day. These are "fun type" camps but still  focus on teamwork and sportsmanship which is an important part of horseback riding.

Please remember Sweet Meadow Stable is NOT a backyard run business!!! We are a 24-7,  seven day a week, full time equine business who prides itself on our reputation and 13 long years in business. Shelley does not work at another job, this is her full time employment. Before you enroll your child in just any summer camp, ask the crudentials of the instructor, look at the farm and make sure all riders have assinged camp counselors for saftey!

1. We do not have more than 10 riders at one camp-  Saftey is first, and we believe the less kids the more attention for each rider thus keeping down accidents. Here, all riders have their own personal camp counselor's. Ms. Shelley along with assistant teachers are also present all day.

 2. Camp is held Tuesday- Saturday- Please drop off your child on time and be ready for pick up exactly at 1pm on weekdays and right after the horse show on Saturday.

3. Campers are required to bringtheir own lunch,  bug spray,  their own lunch,  long pants (or shorts with half chaps are okay),   a change of clothes,  towel (for sprinkler running) and lots of bottled water!

4. We group campers according to ability level-  We try our best to keep ages similar, but riding ability of each person is the final factor.

5. Camp is open to English & Western riders alike-  we offer a choice in riding style! You get to pick! Keep in mind we do not teach speed events, barrel racing etc. for Western riders. We specialize in proper riding and saftey is always first!

6. We do not put your small child ontop of a huge horses! We are one of the only stable's around who believes small children should ride small ponies-  this is because of saftey issues should a small child fall off.    **Remember    the higher up the harder the fall and the heavier the horse the harder the stomp!!! **  We are very proud of our fleet of 7 well trained small ponies. Older/advanced children may choose to ride large ponies or horses.

7. Groundwork is a must- each camper will complete a groundwork test before being allowed to climb on the back of a horse. Riders must demonstrate ground control,  effective horse handling skills, understand equine body lanuage and know how to properly tack up a mount.

8. Reserving your spot- To reserve your child's spot, call Shelley to enroll and send a $50.00 non-refundable deposit. Camp is rain or shine!  Shelley's contact info: 302-436-8458   or  shelley@sweetmeadowstable.com
