Shelley's Background

From viewing this website, you can see Shelley Wright-Estevam has her own way of doing things. It is this way of thinking that has produced the largest lesson program in the entire beach area. Wheather you like Shelley's pleasent nature, her work ethic of actually returning phone calls, or simply somebody who finally understands both horse and rider, there will be something you pick up on that is different about her and her stable.

Shelley is an eastern shore native and moved to the beach area in 1996. When she first moved to the beach, Shelley took up an interest in law and worked for an attorney for a couple years before going back to her first love which was horses.  She was a "self-starter" and grew her business from the ground up at age 18. Shelley has now been involved in horses for twenty five years and teaching for fifteen. She knows the equine business and is well standing in our local equine community. Shelley grew up riding English under such instructors as Diana Goodlavage and Sharon Minor. In her later years Karen Kershaw, Linda Blasky and local ledgend Carroll Williams were some of her influences.

Currently Shelley specializes in English equitation as a whole, but it's the uniqueness of the Natural Horsemanship knowledge that truly define her. Shelley is one of this areas few instructors offering an extensive background in this venue. Not only does she teach Natural Horsemanship and incorperates these philophies into her daily lesson program, she runs Sweet Meadow Stable on these same values.

Something else that is interesting about Shelley, is her passion for rescuing horses bound from slaughter. Yearly field trips to the New Holland auction, in PA, have resulted in many horses being rehabbed and adopted out. With her Equine Podiatry schooling, Shelley looks for those particular horses who are seriously lame. She then targets those for rescue and treatment. Her podiatry efforts are a reportedly an amazing 95% successful and 100% without the use of the horseshoe. Not to mention she has wrote artices, spoke at the Delaware Horse Expo for two years, has done clinics and demonstrations on the topic of barefootedness and natural horsecare.

Horses are not the only animals Shelley rescues. Six rescue dogs from backgrounds such as torture cases, severe neglect,  starvation and puppy mills, have also found their home at Sweet Meadow Stable.

If you're looking for someone not so "run of the mill" you may have just found her. If you're looking for a place to call your second home, you may have just found that too.

My Hero: A school write up by Alex Wilson (10 yo) Wilmington DE.

A hero to me is someone you look up to. A hero should not do things like drugs or anything against the law. Hero's should respect others.

My hero is my riding instructor. Her name is Shelley Wright. The reason she is my hero is because she is everything I wuld like to be. She is very paitent, and does not rush me to learn things.

Shelley is also a lot of fun to be around. She is an adult, but she treats all people the same. She is also not afraid to try new things, and she never acts like a know- it- all.  Shelley also deals with headstrong horses very well. She is kind of like my best friend.

Shelley is a hero because she acts like a hero. She has a true passion for horses and I truly want to be like her someday.
